  • Smell Navigation Pt. 1

It’s surprising the differences in air quality from street to street. Despite the breeze, several streets with taller buildings along the side have distinctly trapped some of the exhaust fumes from their center streets. However, more open areas are pretty clear today: There’s somewhere making food I can’t identify, slightly sweet and… kitchen-y? I feel like I can smell grill smells, possibly also some fryer oils.

  • Today’s Challenge

Can I navigate downtown by smell? Let’s find out.

  • About Me

My name is Spring! I am a citizen of Cascadia, and (perhaps wannabe) political and internet activist. This is my personal blog, so don’t expect 100% consistent content or posting. I am interested in forking the entire world: We need a new internet, a new government, and ultimately a new concept of civilization. I’m here to put myself out there, into the tiny world of the future of the past, with blogs and webpages and most importantly: No enshittification.

My self hosting page is The Internet That Doesn’t Suck. It’s a work in progress, but the eventual goal is to have a page that describes how to completely migrate, comfortably, onto federated & self hosted software. There’s also some ongoing lore with a time travelling unicorn…

Politics will be tagged "politics", and probably also "twothirds". I believe in an open national ballot, with measured passed by twothirds majority becoming law. There must be a way for citizens to fix problems without going though a small bottleneck of elites, otherwise the system will always be subject to elite capture.

If you’re on this page and find it interesting, I’d love to talk to you! You can follow us through our RSS feed, or by follwing me on Mastodon as @spring (at) bestpossible.website. (Web profile: @spring@bestpossible.website) Welcome to my world!

  • Light

I was in the kitchen this morning, at a time when there was a small shaft of dight coming in through the window. The overhead lighs were also on, plain white LEDs, and they looked so weak in comparison. The brightness of the sun was clearer, more real, the things it hit were solid objects in the real world as opposed to ambient stuff. I feel like even light has been stolen from us by circuitry.

  • Addendum to previous

Also if someone could tell me if I dumped my RSS feed and pubished a bunch of ancient webcomics. I’m not *seeing* them, but…

  • Trying to get Mastodon working

The Wordpress ActivityPub plugin seems to do some odd things, most notably Tusky for Android just straight crashes if I follow other blogs. If there’s anyone out there paying atttention, and you can tell me whether or not it’s possible to follow me on Mastodon, it would be highly appreciated. The new instance barrier is rough!

  • Constitutional Convention Talk

Been posting on Reddit about the need for a constitutional convention, and the karma is rolling in. I got my first award for it, in fact.

People are ready for this. It’s become an obvious fact that the current system is untenable, on practically every front the government has failed.

The senate allows Wyoming and North Dakota to cancel out the combined populations of California and New York.

The house is completely gerrymandered, a process which allows a 74% majority to receive minority representation.

The electoral college means we don’t actually count votes for president. Instead, we limit voter power so much only a handful if swing state special interests matter.

The president can unilaterally declare war, and is so shielded by power they can rape children and get away with it.

The supreme court, whose constitutionally defined powers are “they exist”, can create constitutional-level laws that cannot be overturned, making a mockery of the concept of democracy anyway.

There are no mechanisms for the people to propose laws. There are no recall procedures. There are no requirements for elected representatives represent their voters. There are no requirements, and there are no consequences.

We need fundamental reforms. There are no other options. There are too many systems that are just broken, with no accountability, no consequences, and no plan for repair.

At this point I consider it a denial of reality to argue that we can elect Democrats and somehow this will all work out. Right now, they are less popular than Trump, and it is because they are a problem masquerading as a solution. We must reconsider the fundamental structure of our representation, or we will will fail as a country. The shame of our failure will echo throughout the rest of human history, as the ones who set the planet on fire and did nothing to hold those responsible.
